Bangkok
Rain Hill ….Truly Something Different
For a country that just endured its worst flooding disaster in over 50 years, Rain Hill is a pretty ironic name for a new trendy community mall right in the heart of Bangkok (like it really needs another one, but why fight it, right?)
So, in addition to the various other new shopping malls and venues opening nearby, and springing up faster than Arab or Middle Eastern terrorist bomb cells, Rain Hill now debuts as the mid –Sukhumvit area’s latest neighborhood mini- mall/ shopping center choice D’elegance with some interesting options for the most jaded bangkok shopping die hard.
Located right between the Emporium, Major Ekkamai and Thong Lor’s plethora of new sites and cascade of eating places, shoppers don’t really even need to use the BTS/ Skytrain to get to their nearest consumerist fix …Because it’s located in the middle of the 2, therefore… leave the BTS on the Phrom Phong side to walk with the traffic past the Tops supermarket shopping center opposite Sukhumit 26, and it will be about 300-400 meters…
But why Rain Hill ? This isn’t Korat, Pattaya or Hua Hin.. .
Excuse me, but there are no hills anywhere around the Bangkok that I know, unless by Rain Hill the developer meant the hills of rain the government is hoping and praying won’t materialize before the next election …If it hopes to have any FROC’ing flooded street cred left at all. Or the hills of concrete expressway ramps that bring threatening incoming traffic in to merge or exit with your lane while you try to get a 3x 5 card space to drive in without getting in a collision with drivers who can’t bear the concept of yield to right of way- hey F-O! There is no right of way,… right, that’s why maybe, just a lot of wrong of way.
Nope, no hills here (okay, ant hills perhaps).
Sorry, we’ll park the rant, uh, we mean the LifeBangkok Mobile and get out- let’s look around. “Rain Hill …It’s where you find yourself” … the lead marketing ‘feel good’ reads…
Really! Ok so that’s where I‘ve been hiding from myself all this time… No wonder I couldn’t find me!
Look, mom, ..Here I am!
Ok, so once inside it is beautiful although not like the computer graphic photo glossy promotional ad that is imposed on today’s front page Bangkok Post supplement.”A new Way of Lifestyle” ,… I guess by that they mean yet another, new-ER way of SHOPPINg Lifestyle…’ yes, that art seems to have been mastered fairly well here….
Although we’re still waiting for the more esoteric versions of new shopping lifestyles to really take off here.. Like ‘Shopping in the Nude’ ,… Gay/Lesbian alternative Lifestyle Oriented Shopping, and Terrorist Shopping, where all your faviorite terror-related wares are available that we’ve all so recently become accustomed to…
1st Floor: C-4, Urea Fertilizer and Ammonium Nitrate, ..
2 nd Floor: Remote Control Detonators, Timers, Escape Route Stickers Radio Bombs and Surveillance Cameras
..Finally inexpensive Halal eateries, Subway Bomb Sandwiches and the Last Supper are among the most popular places for quick casual fare for the active urban terrorist. Don’t forget Starbuck’s and AuBon Pain- it hurts so good with all that added espresso laden caffeine as you plan to take out entire city blocks… It could be the last serious coffee you get for a long, long time!
Rain Hill…Oh… Okay, Right features ‘.Life’ a gadget warehouse, full of the latest electronic gear everyone owants to score, for the terror and non- terror inclined alike…Paperista a scrap book, arts & crafts style and DIY card shop for the artsy- tartsy in us all.. (We bet that’s a great place to meet the quiet artist in you- just in case you were now recently ‘found’, you know where you’ll be in the future too…)
Yankee Candle, an importer of hip- hopping modern and trendy candles is making its debut launch here.. and right in time for terrorist season! Whoo,- ee… disclaimer*Please leave all gunpowder, C-4, explosive- capable bomb materials and detonators outside….*
“Rain Hill is a harmonius blend of unrivalled choices developed by the Boutique Group with 40 well known and exquisite brands… Him & Her for the latest in fashion, ASAP, combining a fusion of Japanese and Korean pop inspired unisex apparel, Miss Pretty for jewelry lovers and the Japanese eatery Marugam Seimen (we’re a little afraid to ask)… is an authentic style Japanese restaurant while Ramen Kio is a famous ramen soup and noodle café from Osaka. Both are launching for the first time in Thailand, so Rain Hill, though desperately needy in terms of geographically sounding locational accuracy is breaking new ground for the shopping inspired and obviously caters to the Asian female shopaholic.
Wine Connection Tapas Bar & Bistro is obviously full of to die for fads for wining and dining foodies… With House of Salad, though nomenclature-ally challenged as it is, is probably the best culinary health choice of all….
Finally outlier ‘2046 by In the Mood for Love is ‘a perfect place for meals’.. .although perfectly confusing as to what it may serve…
Welcome one and all to your newest and most conveniently placed Rain Hill Retail landmark… just walk (WALK!) from either BTS station, as neither Thong Lor nor Phrom Phong will get you here … Oh, and watch out the rain is coming …<<<<Cloudburst/ Lightning>>>*^#!
See Official Press Release for More Promotional Information:
“Rain Hill will occupy 10,000 sq.m. of commercial space over five stories. Developed by the Boutique Group of Companies, a leading developer in the real estate and hospitality sectors, the unique lifestyle community mall is accessible from Phromphong and Thong Lo BTS Skytrain stations. Rain Hill is the only community mall to be located on the front of Sukhumvit Road- strategically located at the corner of Sukhumvit Road and Sukhumvit Soi 47, targeted at middle and upper class Thais and foreigners, especially Japanese families and Sukhumvit residents…”

Based on the description and directions given here, I have no idea where this mall is except that it’s somewhere not far from Emporium. Can you just say where it is – like corner of X and Y – instead of these vague directions?

…..leave the BTS on the Phrom Phong side to walk with the traffic past the Tops supermarket shopping center opposite Sukhumit 26, and it will be about 300-400 meters……….Rain Hill is the only community mall to be located on the front of Sukhumvit Road- strategically located at the corner of Sukhumvit Road and Sukhumvit Soi 47, Phrom Pong is a road that stretches from opposite Sukhumvit 24 to Petchaburi Rd, and it’s coupled as Sukhumvit 39. Yes, Bangkok is a bit confusing. No, there’s no easy way to figure it all out. We tried. May the GPS God shine upon you everywhere you wander….
Maybe reading all of the article is helpful….or read it then comment, instead of vice versa.
